So when I opened my package, the Composite AV link said “Videos, Music, and UMDs on your television.” Unfortunately this was a warning that this site as well as the few others which sell this product are missing. Because in the big and fine print on the packaging, it clearly states gameplay cannot be played through these cables.

Bwuh?!? Yes, I was quite shocked and annoyed as well but there it is, the key feature of the PSP-2000 is lacking in these cables. And these worst part is how hard this information was to come by. Consider yourself warned. I sure wasn’t.

You may be looking at this composite cable and wonder, which should I get?

Composite: Offers the ability to play music, photos, and videos. Overall “okay” quality.

D-Terminal: Offers the ability to play music, photos, and videos. Overall “better” quality. Rarely used in the USA. (Do not confuse with VGA ports.)(Not sold in the United states.)

Component: Offers the ability to play games on a progressive scan TV (480p, ect.), music, photos, and videos. Overall “better” quality.

S-Video: Offers the ability to play music, photos, and videos. Overall “good” quality. (Not sold in the Unite States.)

On another note, the PSP’s native resolution is 480×272, and when you place that on a 720×480 or higher resolution TV, it will never look as sharp. These cables are nice for taking a PSP to someone’s house and showing them videos or photos on their TV, or your TV.

  3. These cables are nice because they allow you to connect your PSP 2000 to a TV. you can scroll through the XMB and you can view photos, listen to music (and view the visualizations), Watch UMD videos, and also MP4 videos. You can even use the Web Browser on your TV. Unfortunately, you cannot play games with this cable. You can try but as soon as you start a game, a pop-up displays, and informs you that to play games you need to buy the PSP 2000 Component AV Cable. I think this flaw should be included in the product description so that customers with older SDTVs that only have Composite cable inputs, would know that they will NOT be able to play games from their PSP 2000 on a TV.

This cable works fine with the PSP 3000 and older TV for playing games, I know, I own both. The package says it’s for the PSP 2000 and will not display games but like I said, it works fine with the PSP 3000.

To all those who think this product is crap. IT’S NOT!!!! I REPEAT NOT CRAP!!! If you have a PSP-3000, which is the current model I own, you plug it up, go to connected display settings, then go to switch video output and then you get oh my god! video on the tv. I haven’t tested UMD movies on this nor music but contrary to the product’s writing, it will let you play games on it. If you do this on a PSP-2000 however it will not work because the firmware on the PSP did not allow play on a regular TV but will play on a digital TV. Please stop dissing products until you’ve tried everything possible to make it work for your tv.
