    Fender Precision Bass (P-Bass) for Playstation 3 (PS3) & Rock Band 2

Just got my Mad Catz Fender bass. Out of the box the controller looks cool… Easy assembly just pop the head on, add the strap, and toss in the batteries.

I wish I could tell you how well it worked. Unfortunately the bass guitar loses connection every 10-15 seconds and then reconnects 5-15 seconds later. I could not make it through a single song. I was able to hold a semi stable connection if I stayed within 5 feet of the USB dongle. I say semi because if you move around… there goes the connection again. I’ve already filed for a return with Amazon.

Mad Catz obviously skimped on the wireless transmitter/receiver in this guitar. What a waste, $90 for a guitar that doesn’t work… phiffff…

Pros: Looks great, good feel, good weight. Little larger than the RB guitar but comfortable.

Cons: It doesn’t freak’n work!! LOSES CONNECTION EVERY 10-15 SECONDS. Strum bars are rather ‘clicky’. Frets were omitted on the finger taps. Does not provide auto calibration.

I would not recommend this product until Mad Catz adds a functional wireless transmitter/receiver to this product. Prospective buyers be warned.

Like other reviewers, I purchased one of these controllers and it had so many problems losing it’s connection to the PS3 that it was unplayable. I shipped it back for a replacement which I received right away (thank you Amazon). The second controller had the same exact problem. I am sending it back for a complete refund. I don’t understand how a company can put out such a bad product and stay in business. Too bad, I’ve been waiting a year for this controller to become available!

  3. Nice to have an ‘actual’ bass in the band, and the split, two finger strum bar and thumb rest adds a nice touch of reality. The dial operated whammy is hard to use though, so don’t look for this axe to provide top scores if you are a competitive player. It’s also hard to get this bass and the stock guitars to all sync up with the receivers, it usually takes some replugging or rebooting to get everyone going.

Waiting patiently for this product to be released didn’t pay off. (The release date had been pushed back multiple times)

Out of the box, the item was dead on arrival. The wireless dongle kept intermittently losing its connection with the guitar. Happened multiple times per song. Ordered a replacement from Amazon, but unfortunately, the result was the same. The only difference was it was happening less frequently. Returned replacement for a full refund and ordered the Logitech guitar instead (nearly the same price).

This product has quality issues. After checking the blogs, the problems that I was having–getting dropped–was a common problem. I called support and they denied the problem, so I guess all those blog people never called in which is not what they said on the blog. They would not exchange it until I mailed it in. They have no exchange program like Rock Band itself. I got it to work by connecting the wireless connector to an USB extension and keeping it close to the bass. I like to play the bass to and on the blogs my problem was minor and I made it work so I will not exchange it because everyone who exchanged theirs reported that the replacement had problems too.
