I bought the World Tour Band kit yesterday. Hooked it up to my PS2 and it worked like magic. Before you know it, I had my 2 year old singing, my wife playing the drums (my wife is a better drummer than me), and me rocking out on the guitar. The songs are great and I love how each person can play at their own pace. I’m at medium level on guitar, my wife is easy for drums, and my 2 year old is advanced on the singing (well, maybe not yet, but for now she is a beginner level). I have 2 frustrations with the game. 1) it is slow to start. Easy level on the drums is hard in my book, granted we haven’t had any time to practice. But we often are not able to finish the song, so we have to start over. This takes what seems like a few minutes to reload. You’d think that if you already have the song loaded, that it would be a quick thing to start over. Frustration #2, there are alot of menus to go through. It took awhile to be able to set all 3 of us up to start playing. If I set myself as the leader of the band, I never could start the music with my guitar. I always had to set the drums as the leader so that we could start playing.

As I stated above, the game is great. It is a ton of fun and recommend it for every age group. I think over the next few years it will be a great game that my family can play together and have fun. It will really allow us to bond tightly. I recommend it for all parents with kids of all different ages to play it with their kids. They might be able to cream you at the game, but you can play it at beginner level, while they are at expert.

Here’s what I did to fix the same problem on my PS2 (Slim model # SCPH-70012). This should work for all models of PS2′s. (Slim or Fat). Sony says all models can read a dual layer disc. If the fix doens’t work then you need to send in your PS2 for service.

    1) Start up the PS2 with no disc in it.

    2) Highlight the ‘Browser’ menu and press the ‘green triangle’ button.

    3) Highlight the ‘Console’ menu and press the ‘green triangle’ button.

    4) Highlight the ‘Diagnostics’ menu and press the ‘blue X’ button and select ‘ON’.

    5) Press the ‘red O’ button to back out of this menu.

    6) Highlight the ‘PlaystationDrive’ menu and press the ‘green triangle’ button.

    7) Highlight the ‘Disc Speed’ menu and press the ‘blue X’ button and select ‘FAST’.

    8) Press the ‘red O’ button to back out of this menu.

    9) Turn off your PS2.

    10) This step is optional…….I blew into the main unit to loosen any dust out of it and then carefully used my shirt to wipe across the lens at the back of the drive. I’m not sure if this mattered or not. Since I did this in conjuction with the above steps I can’t say if this is needed.

    11) Insert the disc and turn the PS2 back on. The diagnostics should run and automatically adjust your PS2 to play the game. I was amazed! Mine loaded right up after several previous days of nothing.

    12) I checked the settings after the initial load and the Diagnostics and Drive speed reset to normal so it must be a one time run thing. My game has loaded everytime since and I haven’t had to re-do the settings at all.

I hope this works for you too!!

  3. When buying this game I had some concerned because a lot of people were saying that it sometimes came with the instruments not working, or that it did not play on certain PS2s, or that Rock Band was better. I can ASSURE you this game works perfectly fine, the track list is awesome, it is one of the best party games ever!

And if you just want to play and not care about “adventure mode” you can unlock every song with a cheat code and just play for fun!

Seriously, do not have a single worry about this game and buy it! It’s the cheapest guitar hero world tour out there because it’s on the PS2 and it is as good as the other ones, no difference! Enjoy!

My husband also owns Rock Band and says he still loves his Rock Band, but his favorite is the New Guitar Hero World Tour!

Really, I don’t need to review the game itself, there are many reviews that cover that. I did want to say that my family was one of many that had drum kit issues straight off the bat. Our red pad had to be hit extremely hard to register.

Even if you are not having drum pad issues, I highly recommend going to Red Octane’s Warranty Department ( [...] ) and asking for the free drum tuner MIDI cable. It’s a quick download on Windows and works extremely well. We have a drum kit that responds beautifully now.
