Devil May Cry 4 Collector’s Edition

In the interest of time and space this review will be about this specific version and not the game itself, as there are already reviews for that. Really, the only question here is: are the $20 extra worth it? Cosmetics aside (which alone are worth it for the collector), you’re getting 2 extra discs, one with 4 episodes of the animated series — which are mandatory by the way, but mileage varies greatly apparently — along with some extras, and a second disc with an art gallery, soundtrack, making of DMC, etc.
So my reasoning goes like this: The anime can be purchased separately for 30 dollars, or you can get it here for 20 dollars along with a bunch of bonus content. This is a game that you’ll revisit down the line, and you’ll be glad you bought the limited edition in time. And even if you do plan to sell it someday, it will be worth more than the regular version and you’ll still have gotten a deal on all the extras, especially the anime.

well you can see reviews for this game on this site so ill just talk about the special features. first of all the game case is in a plastic sleeve which stops the metal case from being scratched and it holds the anime disk. when i removed the case from the sleeve i was expecting some artwork but nothing like this. its a beautiful holographic case showing nero holding up his “devil bringer” and on the back is dante holding his pistol “ebony”. aside from the very attractive case, the two bonus disks are fantastic. the anime dvd is very action oriented and can be viewed in japanese with subtitals or in english. also the dvd has an interview with the voice acter for dante and some game promos. the “bonus” dvd is meant for the computer and is a very nice treat for any dmc fan. it has an art gallery showing some origional artist scetches of the dmc 4 charecters, the game soundtrack ( very good quality( i put them on my ipod)), and lots of desktop backgrounds and screen savers. overall i would say that the extra 30 bucks is sooooooooooo worth it for this masterpiece.

Like the previous post, i won’t focus much on the game itself in my review other to say that i disagree with some publications writing this game off as a “last-gen gameplay experience with pretty graphics”. I disagree in that i think that they perfected the gameplay, made great improvements overall and gave us a very interesting story. Also this game has a 4 at the end for a reason. Games are more comparable to movies nowadays and it would be a great idea to play the first 3 before jumping into this.
Now for the meat and potatoes; This collectors edition is a must buy for DMC fans. The packaging is visually appealing with some neat artistic effects. The slip sleeve is transparent has the text for devil may cry 4 and the blue light behind it as its front image, and as you slide it off to reveal the metal case you’ll find that the image of nero is part of a larger picture embedded into the metal case that is obscured by the transparent sleeve. Even better is that the reverse side of the metal case has a similarly positioned Dante so that you can essentially give the game the cover of your preference when its slip-sleeve is on.
There is a seperate gatefold DvD case for the DMC anime series inside the slip-sleeve and although i found that it was a bit of a tight fit, i didn’t feel cheapened by its position in the packaging.
The Metal Case is definately tough, and stays shut very securely, but worry not, it is easy to open. Inside you have an art booklet/instruction manual and the bonus dvd that you can watch on your dvd player or computer. The enhanced PC features include the soundtrack and screensavers. The soundtrack only includes 5 songs, but they are very high quality mp3s, it even has its own application that you can fire up and listen to the tracks with.
While i haven’t beaten the game yet, i am very satisfied with this collectors edition’s contents and its packaging. I highly recommend this one for Devil May Cry 4 fans. New gamers to the series might find all the added features a bit superflous, and critics of the american dub of the anime series may find argument in its inclusion. However i was already a fan of the voice talents as most of the cast is part of the american dub of Super Milk Chan ( a show i’m quite fond of ). This might be enough to make a few DMC fans sit out this special edition.
Bottom line: highly recommended and a great treat for longtime fans.

In my opinion, this is the best Devil May Cry since the 1st one. The collectors edition is a really nice deal. It comes with the game (:0) The first 5 episodes of the animated series, an offer for the 1st series DVD case FOR FREE(you pay $4 S&H) A Bonus Disc with 5 songs, backgrounds, and misc. pictures (you have to put the disc in your comp.) Oh yea and a nice metal case for it.
Now down to game play, as you all know a new character is introduced here, Nero, he plays similar, but not so similar to Dante. It is a very fun game, you do also get to play as Dante, he is a lot older and more comical than before. A definite game to pick up. It also has a very nice story, and a gripping intro (I was like 0_0 when i first seen it!)
Now with all this praise come some criticism, It is astronomically short. 1st time was 10.5 hours to beat, but every other play through was much longer (Different modes) But there is about 2 hours (give or take) Of cut-scenes.
And also, Dante was more of an after thought here (playability wise) As with him there is alot of back-tracking. Lady and Trish literally make a brief intro. Lady gets the short end of the stick here, you only see her for 20sec. and thats at the bonus ending only!! And there not playable! Oh well maybe in DMC 5 (wonder when that will hit shelves o_o )
Overall these few things should not scare you away from this amazing title!

I thoroughly enjoyed this game. The collector’s edition had some nice extras and a beautiful case. Although for the extra $25, I’m not sure I got my money’s worth. I’ve never really gotten into action games and hack ‘n slashers, but this game has changed that a little. As for replay value, personally, I went through it once and beat it on normal and played a few stages on hard. I haven’t touched it since, but I’m not into the whole achievements thing, so already going through the game and seeing the story was enough for me. If you like action games I definitely recommend this game. If you are kind of neutral on them I’d say give it a try, I know I loved it. Overall it was a great experience.
