Legos are always expensive, especially the premium sets like Star Wars. My son (7) picked this one out himself out of all the $20 and under sets at the Lego store. When assembled, it has movable wings and comes with the bad-guy pilot and the R2-Q2 robot.

It took him about 1 hour to build, start to finish, with me helping to sort the pieces, correct a couple mistakes, and put the decals on. Overall, it was a straightforward build and not too tricky.

Once completed, the cockpit opens and closes using a hinge, and the wings on the rear sides rotate 90 degrees. The grey parts of the wings can also be bent. There are no shooting missiles.

The pilot can fit in the cockpit even with his gun in his hand, which is nice. R2-Q2 is slightly metallic in color, not just a plain grey. With R2-Q2 as he’s seen in the picture, you actually have to detach his head an only put the head on the ship in order to match the picture. However, it does fit perfectly in that same spot fully assembled, he just stands on top instead of looking like he’s down inside the ship.

When resting on the ground, the ship only sits on one round 4-peg piece, so it’s wobbly, but the piece is at the center of gravity of the ship. The large pieces and simple construction make it pretty durable so it doesn’t break apart easily.

I did have some trouble with the decals and might call customer service to see if I can get a new set – they came kind of curled at the edges and therefore when applied, they keep curling up. Just a tip on decals – wash the lego parts with some soapy water and dry, then put the decals on before assembling. This will keep finger oils off the parts and they’ll stick better.

Overall, if you need a “bad guy” ship or just want a moderate-low priced set, this is a good choice.

I bought this for $15 and for that price, you can’t go wrong. It has a variable position wing that rotates and bends, which is nice, but also a bit flimsy. The rest of the craft is quite sturdy and well designed. For a child, it can be played with, but watch those wings – because of their ability to rotate and bend, it may fall off during play. As for a display piece, it is ok. It doesn’t come with landing gears or a stand, but it does rest on 1 clear round cylinder piece that is strategically placed in the center of gravity of the craft.

This fun little set is quick to assemble and fairly durable. The wings rotate and flex. 139 pieces. Includes 2 minifigs.

Recipient is nine years old and a skilled LEGO builder; it took him 20 minutes to build the entire set independently. More durable than the Hyena Droid Bomber, thank heavens.

    Fun for play.
