I got the Nyko twin pack battery/charger plus one extra battery, since we have 3 kids and 3 Wii remotes.

    Pros:

    * Charging dock has built-in AC supply, so no clunky wall wart adapter to find a home for – just plug the dock into a convenient AC socket.

    * Dock doesn’t get warm (either while or while not charging batteries) which is unusual for cheap consumer electronic devices.

    * Battery and cover are a perfect fit into the Wii remote.

    * Comes with NiMH batteries (rather than the cheaper NiCd) so they should last a long time despite not being given ‘good charging etiquette’.

    * Looks like the designer put a proper charging circuit in, since the LEDs on the front go blue for ‘charging’ and green for ‘finished’. I hate it when batteries are left roasting indefinitely.

    Cons:

    * Would have been nice if the supplied battery covers were of a different color – helps kids to know which are remotes 1, 2 and 3 before grabbing them. This is a constant source of squabbling in our house. There is a pecking order to who gets controller #1.

    * There is no slot on the dock for the Wii remote strap to exit. You have to hold it awkwardly to the side while clicking the remote into the dock. This makes the charging contacts only just make contact. Any slight move and the remote stops charging. Tweeny kids are not very good at doing this.

  2. I purchased the Nyko charger and an extra battery kit and in the beginning it was great!! It saved us alot of money on disposable batteries and we had no complaints at all. Unfortunately, after only 3 months two of the rechargeable batteries stopped working. I wrote to Nyko to ask them if this was a normal occurrance or if I could purchase replacement batteries but I never received a response. I find that a 3 month life span is a bit short for the price that we paid and the lack of customer service is offensive.

This way you don’t have to get another entire Nyko charger set. I’m not sure how long the rechargeable batteries last but i’m sure they eventually run out of juice. At $6.99 each you can’t go wrong. I may even get some extras. Only bad thing is you cannot choose the color on the backing! I purchased one on 9/12/07 and rec’d a turquoise one.

These are a simple must have if you already own the Nyko charge station. The charge feature is very nice and I’m very pleased with the added grip, some of the grips that you can buy for the Wii controller are very big and make the controller almost unusable.

Though it appears that the site only has the one color you can actually find these in your local electronics store in multiple colors making it that much easier to designate who’s is who’s. Please know that because of how the controller charges you cannot have an additional grip or skin as it will not sit correctly in the base (unless of coarse you take the additional grip off before charging.)

Additionally some of you may have already read my post for the charger itself but I would like to repost some of it here as it will help extend the life of your charger.

When it comes to rechargeable batteries of any type they are not meant to be left on the charger 24/7. Constant charging when the battery is at maximum charge will wear it down and make it so they can’t hold a charge.

My advise is to place the controllers on the charger only when the controller is getting to the point of dying. Then place it on the charger and let it charge all the way before removing it. As soon as the light shows that it is charged take it off base.

I understand that at times you need to use more than one controller or one might be dying before the other is charged but I promise you that if you can follow these steps your battery life will last much longer.

    Have fun everyone!

This product worked extremely well the first month but after a while it stopped working. You place the battery in the charger and it would say that it’s charged even when it wasn’t. I even kept it in the charger for days it would not charge but yet the charge light would be green. Tried to contact Nyko and got no response or help at all. I even recommended the product to some friends and family members and they all ran into the same issue.

Advice would be to charge it but keep it off the charging dock until it’s completely drained before charging it again.
